Karen Baughn

Karen Baughn is a Los Angeles based teacher, actor, improviser, and writer. A high school apprenticeship with the Idaho Shakespeare festival sparked passion for the theater, which brought her from her hometown of Boise, Idaho all the way to an little corner of Los Angeles to earn her Bachelors in Theater from Occidental College. She also holds a masters in Professional Creative Writing from the University of Denver and certificate of completion from nearly every improv school willing to take her money. Class Description:

William Shakespeare is considered to be the world’s greatest dramatist. His Tragedies, Comedies and Histories are full of kings, queens, fairies, tricks and are SO MUCH FUN!!  We have been offering Shakespeare Performance Programs for children as young as 4 for over 22 years.  We make Shakespeare accessible and inclusive. In this program, we will learn, discuss and explore some of his 36 plays. We will be learning ALL NEW stories with different selections than what we covered last year. THEN, using fun active theatre exercises we will PHYSICALLY explore these great stories, characters and themes.  This program provides a safe, fun and supportive atmosphere where students will be encouraged to make bold and creative acting choices, while also developing new levels of personal confidence, finding their voice and ensemble skills while learning this great story. We’ll bring it all together as we prepare for a short presentation of some of his characters and scenes during our last class for friends and family.
