Shakespeare Kids
Mike Anderson is a writer, actor, comedian and Father. He received his classical acting training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and improvisation with the Upright Citizens Brigade. Writing: Honorable Mention, Screencraft TV Pilot competition. Third place, UCLA pilot competition. Was featured in the Hollywood Reporter as a writer to watch. Plays at Red Bull Short Play Festival, published by Stage Rights. Acting: Comedy of Errors, Othello, and Three Musketeers (Alabama Shakespeare Festival), Love's Labour's Lost and Romeo and Juliet (Riverside Shakespeare Festival), The Foreigner (Pioneer Theater), Bell, Book, and Candle (Triad Stage), Fat Pig (Speakeasy Stage), The Rover (New York Classical Theater), as well as the Off-Broadway premiere of The Invested. He wrote and starred in the sketch series "Gubers" at Second City Los Angeles. Teaching: Workshops for Riverside Shakespeare Festival, Sioux City East High School, as well as Young Storytellers and Reading Partners in Los Angeles.

Materials: We provide the script and will email deadlines of line memorization. Families provide their own costumes & props with our simple guidance. Affordable and low stress.
Class Description:

Note: It takes 2 trimesters to prepare for this performance. Therefore, the Winter and Spring is a dual trimester commitment. We will bill for BOTH winter and spring in the winter session for this class.

Fall:
In this program, students will learn stage combat and study one of Shakespeare’s works (TBA: Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet (no kissing) or Henry IV Part 1) with acting technique for performance. Through physical and theatrical exercises, students will learn how to create and develop a character, understand Shakespeare and use their voices and bodies to tell this great story. This class is a safe and supportive atmosphere where students are encouraged to make bold acting choices while learning teamwork and gaining confidence. The 11-week session will culminate in a choreographed fight scene and performance selection from the play. Students will also get a great workout!
