Lizbeth Navarro
BA - Fine Arts, Cal State Long Beach
Lizbeth has been working as an art teacher for over 12 years to many different age groups. She is interested in exposing students to ceramics as well as other mediums as a tool to explore their own creativity. Many of her classes have included clay! She sees clay as a humble material to work with yet its possibilities and permanence are remarkable. It has a gentle way to teach us powerful lessons regarding patience, resilience and letting-go. But of course, this can be true for many art mediums! In Lizbeth's classes, there is no "right" way to do art. Instead, we embrace the process of making art, practicing with different mediums, looking for the medium that resonates with each artist the most. We hope to see you all in Lizbeth's classes at HuckleBerry!
Art Exploration
Art Exploration is an open-ended art experience! Art includes many different skills, and we'll be touching on as many of them as we can! We'll definitely explore different types of painting, but this class will also include projects in woven art, clay, sculpture, collage, print making and more! Because of the exploratory nature of this class, each project may look very different. While we will be learning about the aspects of the medium we're working on, and how that medium acts and reacts, the artist will determine what each projects is intended to do, how it will work, what meaning the art will convey. We will also be looking at some famous and some not-so-famous artists for inspiration and to widen our ideas about what is "art" and what is the purpose of art! Is art just there for us to enjoy an idea of beauty, or is art there to get us to think? Of course, it's all up to the artist, so come to this class to learn how to work with different mediums that can be used for a variety of purposes; from functional art to art-as-story, from realism to surrealism and so much more!
